Amber through time...
It is easy to find books on amber, its inclusions and its historical importance for man. But all you read are interpretations of interpretations - what other people have chosen to take out of the big picture. Not so said that there is untrustworthy and directly untrue - but in short, it is selected angles that are focused on and not necessarily the whole picture they reproduce. On this site of the page, you have the unique opportunity to study the sources directly.
It has among other things surprised me to discover, that mankind alredy new ambers origin in details in the year 1555.
The Swedish priest and humanist Olaus Magnus describes picturesquely and in detail, in his great work Historia de gentibus septentrionalibus (I have not been able to get hold of an copy - unfortunately) how the resin flows out of the tree, how resin captures what it encounters such as "frogs, mice, mosquitoes, spiders, flies, chaff , fruits and other", how the resin is washed down the river and into the sea and how the resin to last is" hard as stone ", and becomes amber.
There is a lot of mistakes and misunderstandings in various historical books, which makes these texts almost close to better than any history book you can get. I hope you will enjoy this section as much as I enjoyed making it.
